Lukera is an independent software company based in Johannesburg, South Africa. We build software products, intelligent systems and developer tools, with a focus on useful technology, thoughtful design and strong engineering.
Our approach
We start with the problem, not the technology. A piece of software earns its place by being useful to the people who rely on it, so that is the test we apply first.
We prefer small, well-understood systems to large, clever ones. Clear interfaces, careful handling of data and sound engineering fundamentals make software easier to trust and easier to maintain — for us and for the people who use it.
Where AI and automation genuinely make a product better, we use them. Where they don’t, we leave them out.

The name
Lukera is a coined name. It is not intended as a translation of a particular word. The name was chosen to feel distinctive, simple and globally at home, while still feeling natural to its South African roots. We would rather let the work we build give the name its meaning.
